Privacy & Policies

Last updated: September 2026

Missive is anonymous by design. There are no accounts, no usernames, and no way to log in, so there is no personal identity for us to store or leak in the first place.

What we collect

What we never collect

Encryption

All traffic between your device and Missive is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Data is encrypted at rest in our database provider's infrastructure. Because missives are shown publicly to everyone by design, this is not end to end encryption in the traditional sense, there is no single intended recipient. We are simply honest about what "encrypted" means here: your connection is secure, and there is no identity attached to what you post.

Content moderation

Missives are automatically screened for contact information, links, and a small set of clearly harmful terms before being posted. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these guidelines. Because missives are permanent once posted, please think before you post.

Data retention

Missives are kept indefinitely to preserve the board's history. Hashed device and IP identifiers are used only for short term rate limiting and are not linked to any public profile.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under regulations such as the GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA (California) to request information about data associated with your device, or to request its removal. Because we do not collect identifying information, we may not be able to locate specific data without additional context from you. Contact us using the details below for any such request. missive.support@gmail.com

Children's privacy

Missive is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page from time to time. Continued use of Missive after changes means you accept the updated policy.

What's new in Missive

Missive has just received a set of new features designed to make sharing, discovering, and keeping up with activity on the board easier. Here's a quick look at what's new and how each feature works.

Quick reaction tags

Quickly express how a missive makes you feel with simple reaction tags. Upvote, Downvote, Happy, Sad, or Confused, without needing to write a reply. Upvotes are the most important signal for your missive: they help Missive rank, evaluate, and showcase content based on how many upvotes it receives. Keep the focus on earning and maintaining more Upvotes.

Released: now available as part of the reaction system.

Daily prompt

A new question is posted automatically each day, giving everyone an easy starting point and an opportunity to speak about topics that are rarely discussed. Share your thoughts, join the conversation, and get a chance to become one of the most upvoted Missivers of the day.

Released: daily prompts are now live.

Shareable image card

Turn any missive into a downloadable image card that can be saved or shared outside the app.

Released: one tap image download and sharing is now available.

Live activity counter

See how many people are currently active, with the count updating instantly as people arrive and leave.

Released: realtime activity tracking is now live.

Personal history "My Missives"

A private view of everything you've posted, along with the reactions each one received. Note: Because Missive does not require an account or login, your missives may only be lost if your cookies, IP identifier, or device hash are reset.

Released: your personal missive history is now available without an account or login.

Today's Best / Trending

A dedicated list of the day's most reacted to missives, making it easier to discover what's getting attention across the board.

Released: trending missives are now ranked by reaction activity.
